先週末の6月19日に月刊「ステレオ」の最新号が発売されましたね。今号は年に一度の「工作特大号」です。

音楽之友社 ￥3,528＋税
ここ数年ずっとスピーカーユニットの付録つきという剛毅な特集号ですが、何と今年はウーファーとトゥイーターによる2ウェイ・ユニットが箱の中に封入されています。8cm口径のコーン型ウーファーに2cm口径のドーム型トゥイーターという陣容を、ちょっとだけのぞいてみることとしましょうか。
今年の付録は2ウェイ！ 8cmウーファーにはPW80、2cmドーム型トゥイーターにはPT20という型番がついている。
ウーファーのm0（実効振動質量）は2.3gとあります。バックロードホーンにも使えるフルレンジのFE83Enが1.53g、穏やかなバスレフ向きフルレンジのFF85WKが2gですから、やや重いともいえますが、まぁフルレンジとそう変わらないともいえそうです。
一方、出力音圧レベルは83dB。FE83Enが88dB、FF85WKが86.5dBですから、こちらはかなり低めの数値ですね。
f0（最低共振周波数）は130Hz。こちらはFE83Enが165Hzと思い切って高く設定していますがFF85WKは115Hzとかなり低めに欲張っています。
どうやらこのウーファー、トータルでは限られた物量の中で極力尖った部分を持たせず、2ウェイの設定をしやすいように考えられたユニットなのではないかと思えてきます。上の方は5kHzから急上昇で10kHzにピークがあり、そこから急降下するかと思いきや、何とか踏みとどまって20kHzまでしっかり伸びてから落ちています。このピークをどう養生するか、あるいはそのまま鳴らしてしまうかで、スピーカーのキャラクターはかなり左右されるんじゃないかと思われます。
トゥイーターは1kHzより少し上にf0のピークがあって、f特もその辺を中心に低い山を作りそこから下は急降下、上は8kHzくらいまではほぼフラットで、そこから先は凹凸を加えながらダラ下がりに50kHz近辺まで伸びています。周波数特性を見る限り、かなり「使える」トゥイーターに見えてきます。
こちらはまず1kHz近辺の山をどう扱うかが問題になります。周波数特性的には伸びていてもf0の近辺はインピーダンス特性の山が影響して周波数特性を持ち上げているのですから、音質は劣化するしダンピングも悪くなります。もしぎりぎり下まで使いたいということなら、10～50Ωくらいの抵抗をパラに挿入してf0の山をつぶしてやらないとネットワークの特性を狂わせるし、つぶしてフラットにしてやってもどのみちあまり高音質を望むことはかないません。
やっぱりユニット製造元のフォステクスが指定する通り、3kHz以上のクロスオーバーで使うのが無難なようです。もっとも、このセットにはネットワーク素子も付属していて、それは1uFのコンデンサー（無極の電解）1発のみですから、数値でいえばウーファーは伸ばしっぱなし、トゥイーターのみ20kHzのクロスということになります。明らかにこれ、フルレンジ＋スーパートゥイーター的な考え方ですね。
ただし、誌面ではユニットを設計されたフォステクスの佐藤勇治さんがコイルとコンデンサーを使った本格的なネットワークも解説してられますから、いろいろに実験してみるのが面白いのでしょうね。

また、佐藤さんはキャビネットもいくつか提案されています。ダブルバスレフ方式の図面も掲載されていますが、これはもうすぐ同社から完成品キャビネットとして販売されるそのものの図面だとか。一足先にご自分で作ってしまわれるのもいいんじゃないかと思います。

フォステクスがオフィシャルに発売する付録ユニット専用のダブルバスレフ型キャビネット。なかなか美麗な仕上げだが、1本4,000円とびっくりするほど安い。工作の苦手な人はこれを購入されるのが最善手の一つとなろうが、せっかく図面が公開されているのだ、自作を趣味とする人ならご自分で板を切ってきて作られた方が当然面白いだろう。
フォステクスの「オフィシャル」設計以外にも、例年のように小澤隆久氏の「100均素材で作るキャビネット」や「本格的なハイファイ」のVQWT型（「ダクト付き共鳴管」と説明されています）トールボーイ、浅生昉氏のダブルバスレフ、そして石田善之氏の2ウェイ3スピーカー音場型という美麗物件が掲載されています。各先生方の創意には読者がご自分でキャビネットを構想・設計される際のヒントが山のようにちりばめられていますから、読んでいるだけでもいろいろと構想が広がるんじゃないでしょうか。

幸いMX-1と同10は元ステレオ編集長の工作名手・最上さんが作って下さったので助かりました。その手際たるや、本当に惚れぼれするものでしたねぇ。
D-3MkII改も後年の直管タイプに比べると板材が少なくてやっぱり製作は楽でした。BHの入門者にもぜひ作ってもらいたい作例です。
付録2ウェイのウーファーは60度の指向特性で10kHzのピークが中域より下になっていますから、側面に取り付ければほぼ耳には届かなくなりそうですね。
安価な付録ユニットに高価なネットワークを奢ってやるのも趣味のうちとはいえ、やっぱりハイCPに作りたいとなるといい手段じゃないかと思います。
タンデムは難しいですね。半年くらいたったらユニットを単売してくれるといろいろ面白い試みができるんですが、無理かなぁ。
オントモヴィレッジならできそうな気もするので、ちょっともちかけてみましょうか。

付録２wayは、ウーファーを側面対向でタンデム配置すれば、ある程度高域のピークを避けられそうな気もしますね。ネットワークもシンプルに出来そうですし。私の頭に浮かんだ設計は石田先生のものに近いのですが、あの凄い箱の作りはとても真似する気になりません（苦笑）。タンデムだと、もう一冊買わなきゃならないし・・・。何年分か作っていない付録ユニットが貯まっているし・・・。
