FOSTEX から16ΩのFE103-Solが発売されると知ったときから、「もしも、長岡鉄男氏設計のマトリックススピーカーのMX-1やMX-10にこのユニットを用いたら、どんなに素晴らしい音が出てくるだろう」と考えていました。炭山アキラ氏がそれを実現し、試聴させていただけると聞いて、2014年8月22日の試聴会に参加させていただきました。
その結果は、期待以上にみごとなものでした。FE103-Solは、高域の繊細感や緻密さが格段に向上していることに加え、低域の量感も改善されているのが印象的でした。会場ではダブルバスレフのMX-10は低域の量感もあって聴き応えがありましたが、一般家庭では、コンパクトなMX-1でも、マトリックススピーカーの良さを十分味わえると感じました。
ただ、残念なことは、FE103-Solが限定ユニットであるということ。そして、真空管アンプやデジタルアンプの多くは使用できないなど、気になる点はあります。
それでも、「やはりマトリックスは凄い！」と、感動させられた試聴会でした。
